Deirdre O'Connor, originally from Dublin, Ireland, completed her 200 YTT with Betsy Kase at Yoga Haven in 2005. She has studied many different styles of yoga over the years and she draws on these styles as inspiration to teach a playful yet intentional class with the goal of getting herself and her students out of their heads and more into their bodies. Deirdre teaches a dynamic vinyasa style class that combines creative sequencing, a spirit of lightheartedness and a dose of inspiration to help deepen the connection to your practice and yourself. She teaches group and one on one vinyasa style classes and is also a skilled Thai Massage Therapist (also referred to as lazy man's yoga!).
Thai Massage Bodywork is assisted yoga with acupressure techniques. This therapy addresses the whole being. It is performed on a floor mat. The recipient is fully clothed. This practice relieves joint and muscle restrictions, improves the flow of energy throughout the body, and combines dynamic assisted stretching influenced by yoga and pressure along the 'Sen' (energy) lines influenced by Ayurvedic Science. Expect compression, stretching, pulling and rocking techniques. You will feel relaxed, and energized at the end of your session. Recipients have expressed relief in persistent ailments after just one session! Those that partake in a weekly practice claim it changes their relationship to their sports and other activities, and when they miss their session, they don't perform as well or feel as 'open'. Malinda spent many years traveling the world, visiting ancient and sacred sites, and learning from different spiritual masters and shamans. During her journey to South Africa, a spiritual process determined that she was being “called” by her ancestral spirits to become a Sangoma which is an ancestral shaman from the Zulu tradition. Through this spiritual initiation and years of training, she earned the title of Gogo and was given her ancestral name.
